New ability group idea

November 6th, 2008 · No Comments

We plan to try a new ability group on Monday of week 6. The idea for this has come about from comments from members and us noticing that you guys are either better than you think you are or are getting a lot better.
Basically, the plan is to add a new group in between the beginners and advanced group so that there is more of a gradient - this way there is not so much of a massive leap from intermediate to advanced.
The new group plan will look a little something like this:

1 - (Beginners): Distance designated by members on the night, plenty of regular stops and periods of walks.
2 - (Progression): Distance of 3-4 miles, regular stops and periods of walking as designated by members on the run.
3 - (Upper): Distance of 4-5 miles, regular stops; longer distances at a slower pace if deemed appropriate by members.
4 - (Advanced): Distance of 6-7 miles, fewers stops; hill climbs.

The main reason this this idea has come about is generally because we feel that we are keeping some runners back, and others have the need to try something a little more testing.
Have a look at the ideas, have a think and let me know what you think, d.southall@lancs.ac.uk.
Please remember that any comments are strictly confidential….no names will be mentioned, and obviously any opinions you would like to voice please do so on Monday night.

This idea is to help the members of the club improve, so there is no pressure to keep these groups and we will take on board any comments we get.

Welcome Freshers!!

October 2nd, 2008 · No Comments

Welcome to Lancaster University Running Club.
Our introductory talk is in Furness Lecture Theatre on Monday evening at 7pm. We will give you plenty of information on what to expect from the club over the next year, and give you the chance to sign up if you have not yet joined. A years membership costs just £4, and makes you eligible to take part in the club meetings and socials.
You are free to join any of the three ability groups, and move from one to the other as you feel like it. We are a sociable club, more about promoting fitness at your own pace than running competitively, and we run as a safe and secure group at all times. Come and say hi on Monday night at 7pm - or come and join at any running session on Monday nights, 6.30pm in Pendle TV room.
Don’t forget to join our Facebook group!
